The Bees Academy Schemes

We have three schemes running in the Bees Academy, namely:

  • On Track - Track & Field.
This scheme, based in the athletics centre at Norman Park,  covers running, jumping and throwing in various forms and through different approaches. The key here is that the children have some fun whilst their skill and achievement levels are being enhanced. This multi-event approach to development has been proven to enhance the athleticsm of the youngsters and ultimately leads to better all-round athletes in the longer-term. Many of Blackheath & Bromley's successful athletes have started their athletic careers in the Bees Academy and are not only competing at National level but have gone on represent their countries.

The Track & Field Scheme is for children in School Years 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9, and the coaching sessions are available on Mondays 6.00 to 7.00pm, Wednesdays 6.00 to 7.00pm, and Saturdays 9.00 to 10.00am during school term times - see Calendar for more information.

  • Off Track - Endurance.
Since the Spring 2010 term we have introduced a new scheme that caters for the youngsters who wish to do endurance-type running, e.g. cross country. This scheme, based at Norman Park, is actually out in the park and surrounding woodland. In addition to the relatively high level of focus on endurance running skills, we do not forget the importance of introducing the athletes to other events to improve their all-round athleticsm.

The Off Track Scheme is also for children in School Years 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9. The Off Track sessions are on Saturdays 9.00 to 10.00am at Norman Park, during school term times - see Calendar for more information.

  • Mini Bees.
This is a scheme introduced to cater for young children in Reception to School Year 2 range. Based in the athletics centre at Norman Park, this scheme aims to develop the children through the fundamentals of athletics primarily using appropriately designed fun and games activities. The Mini Bees sessions are on Saturdays 9.00 to 10.00am at Norman Park, during school term times - see Calendar for more information.

Random Testimonials

  • "As a parent of a 'Bee', I was really impressed with the quality of coaching, care and efficiency of the Academy. The communication was excellent and, despite the numbers, each child was well known, encouraged and their individual talents were developed. The level of expertise didn't matter – brilliant coaching by totally dedicated people made it a huge amount of fun, such that we could never miss a session, regardless of the weather!

+   Going to 'Bees' was much more than just a weekly workout – it taught teamwork, respect for each other, celebration of the success of others and the best general grounding required to progress in a club situation. This was all achieved with a child-friendly approach and genuine interest in each one. Without this, my daughter would never have had the confidence to join an athletics club or become so committed to sport." Sarah Fletcher, Parent
  • "Also I wanted to say thanks very much to the coaching team for the cross-country. Angus has really enjoyed it this term and was rewarded by being amongst the medal winners at the Bromley Primary schools event yesterday. (He also won another cross-country tournament earlier in the week at Alleyn's schools in Dulwich.)"
